Frequently Asked Questions

Where and when can we get married?

Where and when you want to – at a reception centre, in a public park, in a hot air balloon, on a beach or on a boat. At dawn, midday, afternoon or night – it is all up to you.

How much notice do we need to give to get married?

Both of you must complete the Notice of Intention of Marriage. This document is a legal document and can be completed up to 18 months before but no less than one month and one day before the day of your ceremony.

How often should we meet with the celebrant?

I would advise at least two meetings are necessary – more if you do not have internet access. For the drafts of your wedding ceremony, I will email you as often as necessary until we get it right. After the initial meeting it may be we only need to meet again for the rehearsal. But always know you can call or email me with questions whenever is necessary.

What happens at the initial meeting?

I will ask you questions designed for us to get to know each other, so we can see if I am the right “fit” to be your celebrant. From your answers to these questions, we can then work together to ensure that your ceremony is all that you wish it to be. From here, we will then arrange a timeline for drafts of your ceremony, rehearsal times and any other significant dates in the lead up to your wedding.

What other paperwork needs to be completed?

At the initial meeting, we will complete the Notice of Intention of Marriage. The other paperwork will be explained at this time, and I will work with you to ensure that all paperwork is completed in a timely manner and according to law. Most of this other paperwork will be completed in the week prior to your ceremony, and on the day of the ceremony.

What happens at the rehearsal? Do we have to have one?

I would recommend having a rehearsal or at the least rehearsal discussion. If it is not possible to meet at the venue, I will meet with you at a venue to discuss the role that each person will play on the day and know that we have covered all possibilities – by having “controlled the controllables” we will ensure that your day runs smoothly.

How do we set up a meeting?
